Signify, the renowned Philips spinoff famous for their innovative Hue lighting products, is expanding their brand into the security market. They have recently introduced a new line of security products that will directly compete with industry leaders like Ring and Nest. These exciting new products, set to debut this fall, include the Philips Hue Secure cameras in both wired and wireless versions. Offering a high definition 1080p video feed with night vision capabilities, these cameras allow you to communicate with visitors and delivery people at your door. Additionally, you can integrate them with your Hue lights and sound alarms to create a deterrent for potential intruders. These cameras possess advanced motion detection technology that can distinguish between pets, packages, and people. Privacy is a top priority, as the footage is end-to-end encrypted by default. The versatile Hue Secure cameras can be used indoors or outdoors and the wired version can be conveniently propped up with a desktop stand. Pricing starts at $218 (€200) for the wired camera and $273 (€250) for the battery variant.

For those specifically looking for an outdoor security solution, Philips offers the Hue Secure floodlight camera. This device instantly illuminates a large area in any color of your choice when triggered from the Hue app, providing a powerful deterrent against potential intruders. The floodlight camera is slated for release in the first quarter of 2024 with a price tag of $382 (€350).

The new Philips Hue lineup also includes contact sensors that can be placed on doors, windows, and other areas of your home. These sensors provide instant notifications when opened, and can be programmed to automatically control your Hue lights based on the status of your doors. They will be available in black and white options this fall, priced at $44 (€40) for individual sensors or $76 (€70) for a two-pack.

    What This Means for Homeowners:

    1. Enhanced Security: With the addition of surveillance cameras, Philips Hue provides users with a more comprehensive approach to home security, integrating lighting and surveillance for a more effective deterrent against intruders.
    2. Seamless Smart Home Management: Users can manage both lighting and security from a single app, creating a more streamlined and efficient smart home experience.
    3. Privacy Assurance: Philips Hue’s commitment to privacy control ensures that users have full authority over their recorded data, providing peace of mind.
    4. Weather-Resistant Outdoor Option: The Outdoor Camera is built to withstand the elements, making it suitable for a variety of outdoor applications

To enhance the accessibility of their Secure devices, Signify has updated their app to include a Security Center. From this central hub, users can easily trigger alarms, flash lights, and activate the siren feature on their Philips Hue Secure cameras. The app also provides a convenient way to contact local authorities or trusted contacts in case of emergencies or when away from home.
