Apple has announced that its AI suite, known as Apple Intelligence, will be available to iPhone and iPad users in the European Union starting in April 2025. This news comes after the features have already been accessible to EU users on macOS, specifically in the macOS Sequoia 15.1 update.

The announcement was made via a press release translated from Italian, which confirmed that the rollout of Apple Intelligence features for mobile devices would commence in April. Among the initial offerings are Writing Tools and AI-driven notification summaries, which have already been launched for English-speaking users in other regions.

Apple’s decision to delay the introduction of its AI suite in the EU is linked to compliance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), a regulatory framework aimed at ensuring fair competition in the digital market. This regulation impacted the software available on iPhones and iPads but did not extend to macOS, allowing those users to access the features earlier.

In addition to the April launch, Apple plans to expand the language support for Apple Intelligence throughout the year. Initially, the features will be available in several languages, including Chinese, Korean, French, Japanese, and multiple English variants (for India, Singapore, Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK). This gradual rollout aims to cater to a diverse user base across different regions.

The first wave of Apple Intelligence features has already been rolled out with iOS 18.1 for users outside the EU. This includes functionalities such as Writing Tools, live transcription capabilities, and notification summaries. An upcoming update, iOS 18.2, along with macOS Sequoia 15.2, is expected to introduce additional features like ChatGPT integration, Genmoji, Visual Intelligence, and Image Playground, currently in beta testing and scheduled for official release in December.

However, it’s important to note that access to these features will be limited to specific devices. Compatible iPhones include the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the iPhone 16 series. For iPads, support is available on M-series models, Macs, and the new seventh-generation iPad mini.

As Apple continues to expand its AI capabilities, the rollout of Apple Intelligence in the EU marks a significant step in making these advanced features accessible to a broader audience.
