MGM Resorts had a major cyber security issue this week that led to a large-scale outage across the company’s entire network. The incident caused all their online services, websites, and apps for customers to shut down temporarily while IT personnel worked on remediation. The impact of the attack was not immediately clear but speculation about what occurred has been circulating throughout the internet. Many people have speculated that there was some kind of malicious activity taking place, though nothing concrete has been confirmed as of yet. In any case, MGM Resorts’ ordeal highlights the risk associated with relying solely on digital services in an increasingly tech-driven society – something businesses of all sizes need to be aware of!

MGM Resorts, the owner of a range of casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, has acknowledged a cybersecurity problem that has forced the shutdown of its systems. Gamblers have reported slot machines being taken offline as a result of the incident. The hotel chain’s international properties are currently only accepting reservations over the phone due to website shutdowns.

In a statement, MGM Resorts said it had “identified a cybersecurity issue” and had taken immediate action to protect its systems and data by shutting down certain systems. However, the company has not provided further details about the extent of the shutdown or which systems have been affected.

Some customers have reported difficulties making reservations, using ATMs, playing certain games, and accessing hotel rooms using their mobile keys. Engadget has not independently verified these claims. While the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has been informed about the incident, they have suggested that these types of incidents are typically handled by federal agencies.
