Nothing has unveiled an exciting new version of its Phone 2A Plus—introducing the Phone 2A Plus Community Edition. This special release stands out not only for its unique design but also for its collaborative creation process, engaging the community in an innovative way.

    A Unique Collaborative Approach

The Phone 2A Plus Community Edition is the culmination of a contest held by Nothing, inviting its passionate user base to submit their ideas for a smartphone that embodies their imagination. The result was an impressive collection of over 900 entries, showcasing the creativity of the community. The final design, spearheaded by creators Astrid Vanhuyse and Kenta Akasaki, comes to life with input from Nothing’s own Adam Bates and Lucy Birley.

This edition is significant as it marks Nothing’s first major pilot in co-creating hardware, highlighting a trend toward community engagement in tech development.

    Limited Edition Glow-in-the-Dark Design

What sets the Phone 2A Plus Community Edition apart is its eye-catching glow-in-the-dark design. The phone’s back features a green phosphorescent finish that emits a soft glow in dark environments for hours, charging simply with exposure to daylight. This innovative feature allows the phone to shine without consuming any battery power, ensuring both functionality and flair.

The glowing design extends to the packaging as well, which has been reimagined by Ian Henry Simmonds. The new packaging includes reflective elements and a macro crop of the phone, making unboxing an experience in itself.

    Enhanced Aesthetic and Functionality

Despite the striking new design, the Phone 2A Plus Community Edition maintains the core functionality of the original model. It retains the three distinctive light strips around its rear cameras, ensuring that the visual identity of the Phone 2A Plus remains intact.

To complement the new aesthetic, a curated collection of wallpapers has been created specifically for this edition. Titled the “Connected Collection,” these six new wallpapers were designed by Andrés Mateos and the software design team at Nothing, utilizing a blend of design tools and AI to achieve a look that resonates with the phone’s hardware.

    Launch Details and Pricing

The Phone 2A Plus Community Edition will be available for purchase on November 12th through Nothing’s official website, priced at $399. However, fans should act quickly—only 1,000 units will be produced, making this a truly limited edition.

    Conclusion

With the Phone 2A Plus Community Edition, Nothing not only delivers a standout device with a fun and functional glow-in-the-dark feature but also fosters a sense of community by involving its users in the design process. This approach could set a new standard for tech companies, encouraging greater collaboration and creativity in product development.
