Nintendo has officially announced the remaster of its acclaimed open-world RPG, Xenoblade Chronicles X, which will launch on the Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2025. This Definitive Edition promises enhanced graphics and new story elements, giving both new players and returning fans a chance to experience Monolith Soft’s 2015 action RPG in a refreshed format.

The announcement comes as Nintendo prepares for the reveal of its next console, yet it’s clear the company still has plans for the current hardware. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will include visual upgrades that take advantage of the Switch’s capabilities, promising to bring the expansive world of Mira to life like never before.

To accompany the announcement, Nintendo released a new trailer that sets a nostalgic tone right from the start. The opening line, “Well, here we are. Not too shabby, huh?” feels like a humorous nod to the many beloved titles from the Wii U era that have yet to receive proper attention. With a library of excellent but underappreciated games, including Wind Waker and others, Xenoblade Chronicles X is among the fortunate few to receive a second chance on a more popular platform.

Originally launched for the Wii U, Xenoblade Chronicles X was praised for its ambitious open-world design and deep gameplay mechanics, combining exploration, combat, and a rich narrative. Set in a distant future where players explore the alien planet of Mira, the game features a vast landscape filled with diverse ecosystems and towering mechs known as Skells, which players can pilot. The remaster is expected to build on these elements, adding new story content that expands the game’s lore and characters.

While Nintendo has been busy remastering its older titles, it’s also focused on releasing new games during the Switch’s final days. Mario & Luigi: Brothership is slated for release next week, and fans are eagerly awaiting Metroid Prime 4, which will also find a home on the Switch.

With the launch of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, Nintendo aims to not only celebrate its rich history but also to keep the momentum going for the current generation of gamers. As the company prepares for its next console, it’s clear that there’s still plenty of life left in the Switch, allowing players to revisit classic titles while anticipating new adventures. The remaster is sure to attract both longtime fans of the series and newcomers curious about the world of Xenoblade Chronicles. As the March 2025 release date approaches, excitement is building for what is sure to be a significant addition to the Nintendo Switch library.
