Spotify’s highly anticipated Wrapped 2024 is here, and it brings exciting new features to engage users in ways never seen before. One of the most standout additions this year is the ability to create an AI-powered podcast summarizing your musical journey throughout the year. In collaboration with Google, Spotify has integrated its platform with Google’s advanced AI note-taking technology, NotebookLM, to deliver this personalized experience. The AI-generated podcast, hosted by two virtual hosts, takes listeners through a recap of their top songs, favorite artists, and preferred genres of 2024.
This feature, available to both free and Premium users in several countries, including the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, and Sweden, allows listeners to hear their most played music analyzed and discussed in a fun, engaging format. The AI hosts tailor their conversation to your unique listening habits, making each podcast feel like a custom audio experience that reflects your personal music year.
Spotify’s senior director of product personalization, Molly Holder, explained that this collaboration with Google was an exciting step for the company. “We love audio, we love podcasts, and we’re always looking to be where our users are listening,” she shared in a press briefing. This new podcast integration is designed to enhance the Spotify Wrapped experience, adding an interactive element to the year-end tradition.
In addition to the AI podcast, Spotify Wrapped 2024 will also introduce some other cool features to analyze and reflect on your listening habits. For instance, the app will track how your musical preferences evolved over the year, assigning up to three mood-based musical phrases for each month, such as “heatwave,” “beach,” or “reggaeton.” A personalized “music evolution” playlist will also be created, showcasing your favorite songs of the year alongside new music that fits your tastes.
Spotify Wrapped 2024 also brings insights into global music trends. The most-streamed artists this year include Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Drake, and Billie Eilish. Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” claimed the top spot for most-streamed song globally, and Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology was the most-streamed album.
The platform is also keeping its AI DJ in the mix, allowing Premium users to ask it to create playlists based on their personal musical journey throughout the year. With prompts like “Make me a playlist of songs that represent my music journey,” users can get a personalized soundtrack that highlights the highs and lows of their 2024 listening experience.
For those who love to share their favorite tracks, Wrapped 2024 also adds a new feature to the share button, showing whether the audio you’re sharing is part of your top 100 songs, top 20 artists, or top five podcasts.
Despite competition from other streaming services like Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music, who launched their personalized recaps earlier, Spotify Wrapped continues to dominate the conversation and remains the most talked-about recap of the year.
