Telegram, the popular instant messaging app known for its privacy-focused approach, has once again made headlines with a groundbreaking new feature – Telegram Stories. This latest addition to the platform offers a fresh and interactive way for users to share their stories with friends and followers. However, what sets Telegram Stories apart is its exclusivity, as it is available only for paid Premium users.
This highly anticipated rollout follows the announcement made by Telegram CEO Pavel Durov in July. Non-Premium users can expect to receive this feature in the near future, although a specific launch date has not been confirmed yet. The decision to add Stories was made in response to user demand. Durov acknowledged that users have been requesting this feature for quite some time, as more than half of all feature requests received by Telegram were related to Stories. Initially hesitant due to the prevalence of Stories on other platforms, the company ultimately prioritized user feedback and decided to incorporate the feature. With Stories on Telegram, you have full control over who sees your content. You can choose to share your Stories with everyone, only your contacts, a select few, or a customized list of close friends. These Stories will be conveniently displayed at the top of your chat list in an expandable section. If you prefer, you can also hide Stories from specific contacts by moving them to the “Hidden” list in your Contacts section.
Furthermore, you have the ability to enhance your Stories by adding captions, links, and tagging other users. Additionally, you can capture photos and videos simultaneously using both front and rear cameras, creating a unique BeReal-like experience. When it comes to the lifespan of your Stories, you’re in control. They can automatically expire after six, 12, 24, or 48 hours, or you can choose to permanently display them on your profile page, similar to how Instagram showcases Story highlights. Durov previously stated that even skeptics within the Telegram team were won over by the positive results of internal testing, and that the company now considers Stories an integral part of their messaging service
Benefits of Telegram Stories for Premium Users
- Enhanced Privacy: Telegram’s reputation as a privacy-focused platform extends to Stories as well. With the feature available only for Premium users, there is a higher level of control over who can view and interact with your Stories, ensuring a more secure and intimate experience.
- Deeper Engagement: For content creators and influencers, Telegram Stories offer an opportunity to connect with a more dedicated audience. As a premium-only feature, it fosters a sense of exclusivity, leading to higher engagement rates and a more loyal following.
- Ad-Free Experience: Telegram’s Premium subscription not only unlocks Stories but also offers an ad-free environment. This further enhances the user experience, allowing users to focus solely on the content shared by their favourite creators.
- Supporting Telegram’s Mission: By subscribing to Telegram Premium, users contribute to the sustainability and growth of the platform. This, in turn, allows Telegram to continue developing new features and maintaining its commitment to privacy.
